INTERFAX.RU – The administration of US President Joe Biden does not plan to announce its decision regarding the supply of long-range missiles to Ukraine during the visit of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to Washington and New York, the Axios portal reported , citing an informed source.
There is still a debate going on in the Biden administration about ATACMS supply, he said. In Kiev, they hoped that Biden would approve the transfer of missile systems next week, taking advantage of Zelensky’s stay in the United States, the publication’s interlocutor added.
Ukraine raised the issue of supplies during Secretary of State Tony Blinken’s visit to Kyiv last week, the report said.
According to Axios, Zelensky will visit Washington next week for meetings with Biden at the White House and lawmakers on Capitol Hill after attending the UN General Assembly session in New York. The main purpose of his trip to Washington will be to meet with both Republicans and Democrats on American aid to Ukraine, amid growing disagreements in Congress, especially among Republicans, over the future of American aid to Ukraine, the publication said.
The portal recalled that Presidential National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters the day before that over the past two weeks he had met with the leadership of the House of Representatives and the Senate, and the heads of the relevant committees to discuss assistance to Ukraine.
Sullivan acknowledged that views on this issue in the current Congress differ from previous ones, and stressed that the discussion will continue.
Earlier, Biden asked Congress to approve additional assistance to Ukraine in excess of $20 billion.
