German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius at the NATO summit in Vilnius will announce the provision of a new arms package worth 700 million euros to Ukraine, the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper writes , citing sources.
The new package will include:
- Two launchers of anti-aircraft missile systems Patriot from the arsenal of the Bundeswehr
- 25 Leopard tanks
- 40 BMP Marder
- 20 thousand artillery shells
In May 2023, during a visit to Germany by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Olaf Scholz announced a new military aid package for Kiev and pledged to support Ukraine “as long as necessary.”
That package included 20 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, 30 upgraded Leopard 1 A5 tanks, 18 wheeled howitzers, 100 armored cars, more than 200 reconnaissance drones, artillery shells, rockets for multiple rocket launchers and four more IRIS-T SLM air defense systems.
