Namibia will send a five-man team to the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) World Championships Week slated from February 11 to 18 in Belgrade, Serbia.
The championships in Serbia are set to attract over 500 athletes from 63 countries and regions in both junior and senior categories.
Head coach Carlos de Sousa said Tuesday at a send-off event in Windhoek that the team had to be trimmed from six to five athletes as one of the fighters “unfortunately” came down with the flu.
Namibia will be represented by the current 2022 African champion Veja Hinda alongside Geraldo Bok, Ronaldo Feris, Arno Jacobs and Stefan Gilge.
The team will depart on Wednesday, according to De Sousa, and upon their arrival, they will have two days to climatize.
Chief Administrator at Namibia Sports Commission, Simataa Mwiya, meanwhile said he believes the team is well-prepared for the championships.
“We know it will not be very easy, but I think they will be able to prove themselves better than the rest,” he said.
