Karşıyaka Became a Sister City With Sarajevo’s Novi Grad Municipality

Karşıyaka Municipality signed the ‘Sister City’ protocol with Sarajevo Novi Grad Municipality of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Novi Grad Mayor Semir Efendic, council members and his delegation attended the ceremony held at Karşıyaka Municipal Assembly Hall. Karşıyaka Mayor Dr. Karsiyaka, who could not attend the ceremony due to the positive COVID-19 test. Cemil Tugay was represented by Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Atilla Baysak. Karşıyaka City Council members and bureaucrats also took part in the meeting. Within the scope of the protocol, which aims to strengthen the solidarity, friendship and brotherhood relations between the two cities; Collaborations will be established on issues such as economy, culture, education, tourism, sports, protection of nature and cultural heritage, and knowledge and experiences will be shared.

Expressing his thanks to Karşıyaka Municipality and Mayor Cemil Tugay, Novi Grad Mayor Semir Efendic said, “We are here today to sign the Sister City Protocol. As a result of our meetings, we came to the conclusion that we can work together between the two municipalities. We have seen that we can produce joint projects in many fields, including renewable energy, so that our people can have more livable cities. IzmirWe also know that there are many people of Balkan origin and Bosnia and Herzegovina origin living in Karsiyaka. There is a very different and strong bond between the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Türkiye. Therefore, we are very happy to have signed the Sister City Protocol. We hope that our mutual visits will continue more frequently. Our Mayor, Dr. We wish Cemil Tugay a speedy recovery. I believe that our cooperation will always continue very successfully and that we will achieve great things.”

After the signing ceremony, the guest delegation toured Karşıyaka; He also visited Zübeyde Hanım Mausoleum, Human Rights Park, Universal Children’s Center-Planetarium, Bilge Çınarlar Healthy Aging Center, Adventure Park, Karşıyaka Municipality Construction Site Facilities and Sun Field.
